What is Ohio Occurrence?
Ohio Occurrence is an annual animal activism event intended to bridge the gap between intention and action. Now in its fifth year, the event provides a hands-on opportunity to explore different forms of advocacy in a supportive, empowering environment.
Participants work alongside seasoned activists, gaining real-world experience across a variety of approaches. Whether you're just beginning your journey or have years of activism behind you, Ohio Occurrence is a place to learn, grow, and take a stand as part of a growing community dedicated to ending animal exploitation.

Foie gras
Foie gras is the force-feeding of ducks and geese through a process known as gavage. This involves shoving a metal tube down their throats every day, keeping them full and inducing fatty liver disease. This diseased liver is the product known as foie gras, translating to "fatty liver". Our goal is for this dish to no longer be served in restaurants in Ohio.
Fairs
County and state fairs routinely exploit animals through events such as rodeos, livestock shows, pig scrambles, and animal pulls. Animals used in these events are subjected to confinement, forced handling, and stressful environments with loud crowds and unfamiliar surroundings. Livestock competitions treat sentient beings as objects to be judged on their commercial value. Programs like 4-H brainwash youth into thinking that killing animals is acceptable. We seek to raise public awareness about these practices.
Zoos
Zoos confine animals to enclosures that are a tiny fraction of their natural habitats. Many captive animals develop zoochosis — repetitive, abnormal behaviors including pacing, swaying, and self-mutilation — as a direct result of this confinement. Many zoos claim to engage in conservation efforts, but the vast majority of species held in zoos are not endangered, and reintroduction programs account for a negligible portion of zoo activity. Zoos exist primarily as for-profit entertainment venues that profit from the captivity. Our goal is to make people aware of what zoos are so that they stop supporting them.
Cubes of Truth
A Cube of Truth is an artistic demonstration hosted under Anonymous for the Voiceless that holds non-vegans accountable through the display of factory farming footage on large screens.
Fur
The fur industry kills over 100 million animals annually, primarily mink, foxes, raccoon dogs, rabbits, and chinchillas. On fur farms, animals spend their entire lives in small wire cages before being killed by gassing, electrocution, or neck-breaking. Wild-trapped animals endure steel-jaw leghold traps, body-gripping traps, and snares, often remaining caught for hours or days before being found and killed. Despite the availability of alternatives, fur continues to be sold as a luxury product. We target all businesses that sell this cruelty.
Restaurant Outreach
We work with Plant-Based Treaty, which promotes a shift towards a just, plant-based food system that would enable us to live safely within our planetary boundaries and reforest the Earth. We engage in outreach with restaurants to encourage them to offer more plant-based options, clearly mark vegan options, and endorse the treaty, which you can also do here.
Volunteering
We like to help our community by volunteering at animal sancutaries and cleaning up trash.
Rescuing
When opportunities arise to intervene on behalf of animals in distress, we act. Each rescue represents a tangible, direct impact on an individual's life.
